What is the SMS Character Limit?

The SMS standard for text messaging is limited to 160 characters. That length is an industry standard for text messaging.

Omnilert sends standard text messages for maximum compatibility across all mobile device brands and mobile carriers. To reach the most people, we stick to the standards.

When composing an alert, the SMS counter will indicate how many characters are remaining.

The counter is located directly beneath the composition box for your alert.

If your message exceeds the limit for standard SMS, you may see a notice that your message will truncate and a link will be sent. (See "SMS: Handling long text messages")
