To send out an alert, go to the Send Message page in the left-hand menu.
Sending a message is a three-step process.
Step one: Select a group.
Select the recipients for your alert. If sent to "ALL SUBSCRIBERS", the message will go to every subscriber, even those who did not choose any groups. (This is the default.)
Groups are used to target messages to a subset of subscribers.
The green number to the right of a group's name indicates how many subscribers have chosen that group.
Note that only groups with subscribers in them will be selectable. (You cannot send a message to an empty group!)
Step two: Select one or more endpoints.
Endpoints determine what device/service will receive the message. This can be SMS (texts) and/or email.
Step three: Compose and send your message.
If you've configured Message Templates, you may select one and its content will be inserted. Otherwise, you can simply type in your message and send it.
Note that messages sent to SMS (text messages) must be fewer than 160 characters in total length. There is a character counter on-screen to help guide you. (Text messages that exceed 160 characters will be truncated and a short link will be sent to view the entire message in a web browser.)
When ready, click Send message and then confirm that you'd like to send your alert.
After sending a message
After your message has been sent, your recipients will receive texts and emails. Your sent messages can be viewed on the Timeline page.
Click on a message to view delivery details for that message.
SMS delivery statuses will indicate success or failure by color code and status code. Green statuses indicate success. (e.g. "Accepted by Carrier" or "Delivered to Handset" .
A red status may indicate a problem delivering to a number or a blocked texting plan for that recipient. (e.g. Carrier Undeliverable, Invalid Service Type, or Carrier Could Not Be Resolved by CNS)
