SNPP Triggers are used to launch a Scenario via an incoming SNPP (Simple Network Paging Protocol) message. In this situation, Omnilert will act as a "paging provider" that receives SNPP messages from an external system.
Typically, this function is used to integrate Omnilert messaging with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems that can send "pages" using the SNPP Protocol. This is commonly seen in first responder networks.
SNPP Server:
Omnilert's SNPP server address is snpp.omnilert.net and listens on the standard port (444).
SNPP Recipient Info:
In order to send a page, your system will need a "pager number". That information is found in the details for the trigger once it's created. (See "Creating a Trigger" for instructions on how to set up a new trigger.)
Instead of creating an SMTP (email) trigger, this case uses an SNPP (paging) trigger.
When an SNPP Trigger is created, the new trigger is auto-assigned a "Trigger Recipient" ID, which is the pager address of this trigger on Omnilert's SNPP server. (Some CAD systems will call this address the "pager number", but it's really an alphanumeric string in Omnilert.)
Note: If your CAD system cannot send to an alphanumeric string as a "pager number" and must have digits only, please contact Omnilert support (support@omnilert.com) for special considerations.
SNPP {{snpp_body}} Variable
If you would like messages sent by a triggered Scenario to relay the content from the paging system's message, you can insert the special {{snpp_body}} text variable into your Actions for that scenario.
Much like other text variables, this variable simply gets inserted into the message content when creating/editing an Action.
To use this variable, create a message action and insert the {{snpp_body}} variable wherever you'd like the Omnilert message to include the page's text content.
Important Note:
In most cases, any Scenarios that use {{snpp_body}} in their message content should be initiated via incoming SNPP page only, never by hand. They're built for triggered/automated launch, not the Scenarios app or the web interface.
With this in mind, we recommend not assigning these special automated Scenarios to any other admins so that they don't see them or ever accidentally launch them. (As you might have guessed, launching this message via the portal or the app wouldn't include the critical paging content!)
As with any advanced setup/configuration, we recommend reviewing the setup with your Omnilert Account Manager to make sure your results will meet your expectations.
