Sample Templates - Safety & Security

The following are sample templates to offer a wide array of messages. The following samples are for general security threats. 

Some templates are designed to be shorter than 160 characters so that they will fit in a single SMS (text message). Others are longer to convey more information. For longer SMS messages, Omnilert will send a link to SMS recipients. 

As every organization has its own needs, you may find some of these more useful than others. Alternatively, you may simply find inspiration for creating your own templates in Omnilert.

Sample Templates

LOCKDOWN

SECURE & DENY ENTRY
Emergency at [LOCAL AREA]. Seek immediate indoor shelter and deny entry now! See [URL] for more info.

SHELTER IN PLACE
Emergency at [LOCAL AREA] - remain where you are and shelter in place until further notice. See [URL] for more info.

SHOOTING 
Shooting at [LOCAL AREA]. Go to secure location and deny entry now! See [URL] for more info.

ACTIVE SHOOTER
Police Activity – Shooting near [LOCAL AREA]. All individuals on campus should stay inside their current location. All facilities on campus have been secured. Do not allow building access to anyone without a valid [ORGANIZATION NAME] ID. Police and Security officers have been stationed at certain points on campus to direct traffic and assist individuals. Police are on-scene investigating. Go to [URL] for more information and updates on the incident.

ACTIVE SHOOTER 2

Emergency! Armed person on campus. Go to nearest room and lock door. If off-campus, do not enter campus. Follow instructions from authorities. [URL]

HOSTILE INTRUDER

A hostile intruder with unknown intentions may be on campus. Be aware of your surroundings, secure yourself behind locked doors, find other shelter, or leave campus immediately. HOSTILE INTRUDER 2

HOSTAGE INCIDENT 

[ORGANIZATION NAME] ALERT. A hostage Incident is unfolding in [LOCAL AREA]. Evacuate immediately and avoid this area. Check [URL]

ISOLATED SHOOTING / STABBING EVENT, SUSPECT IN CUSTODY  

TEXT: A [SHOOTING/STABBING] has occurred at [LOCAL AREA]. A suspect is in custody. Police are on scene. See [URL] for more information. 

BOMB THREAT

Emergency! [ORGANIZATION NAME] has received a bomb threat. Prepare to evacuate. Follow instructions from authorities.

A bomb threat has been received by [ORGANIZATION NAME]. If you are in the vicinity of campus, prepare immediately for possible evacuation. Listen for instructions from university officials or local authorities and follow them quickly and carefully. More information on campus emergencies may be found at [URL].

BOMB FOUND 2

A bomb has been found on the [ORGANIZATION NAME] campus in the [LOCAL AREA]. Avoid the vicinity of the [LOCAL AREA], prepare immediately for possible evacuation. If you are not in the area, stay away. Listen for instructions from College officials or local authorities and follow them quickly and carefully. For additional information and updates go to [URL]

PROTESTS (PRIOR TO EVENT) 

[ORGANIZATION NAME] Public Safety has learned that protesters are preparing for action on {{@date_med}}. The exact location is unknown. Report suspicious activity to police.  

PROTESTS (DURING EVENT)

UNKNOWN SECURITY SITUATION

AREA EVACUATION 

Evacuation of parts of campus required. Go to [URL] for info on areas to be evacuated.

AREA EVACUATION 2

An immediate evacuation of [LOCAL AREA] is required due to [REASON]. Remain calm. Follow the instructions of emergency and other university personnel. After leaving the area, go to the [ORGANIZATION NAME] Emergency website: [URL] or other local sources for more  information. Please limit phone use so phone lines are available for emergency messaging. Standby for additional messages. Personnel in those areas not listed for evacuation should remain in place, be alert to changing conditions.
